I am a puddle rather than a core sample. I have broad but not deep understanding. I can talk about almost anything at a cocktail party.

I am far (how far? Hold your arms as far apart as they go: farther than that!) from an expert on string theory, say, or ska or sock garters or selkies (I don’t know why the alliteration, it just happened) but I can contribute to the conversation. As long as there are no follow-up questions, I’m there.

I don’t post about these topics. I don’t care about them. I don’t post about ‘the world’ (politics, art and science, weather, baseball, stuff like that) either. I have opinions, but I think a cocktail party is the appropriate platform for them.

Occasionally, ‘the world’ impinges on the topic I do write about, which is is why I’m here now.

Yesterday I talked about the Camp FUNdament book where nothing new is happening. I was about to hit POST when AI popped up. It had read my piece and composed a thumbnail that promised to get my views to more people.

The thumbnail: EXCITING NEWS ABOUT CAMP FUNDAMENT! FIND OUT MORE!

AI, this set of technologies which is supposed to have more impact on the world than the printing press, internal combustion engine, and DH rule combined – this thing read my post and completely misunderstood it. Got it absolutely backwards.

I edited the thumbnail to say the opposite, and pressed POST.

I wonder what AI thinks about selkies?
