Done-ish

It’s been a while since I gave an update on my sort-of-professional life. I haven't spent every minute working - I have lawns and children to ignore, and my hacked computer (I was so scared! and so stupid!) needed cleaning and reconfiguring. But I have put in some time on the rewrite of the Camp FUNdament book, and here’s where I am.

Ahem.

Done.

Yup, at about 2:00 am this morning, I read through the final page of the ms with Erin’s commentary, made my changes, and closed the file. Haven’t submitted it yet. I want to run through it one more time and tweak a couple of points. But I am, in essence, finished for now.

Melanie assures me that she is close to being done herself. Indeed, as I write this, she may be pressing the SEND button on her half of the book.

Of course we are not really done. There’ll be more edits and rethinks. We’ll get closer and closer. Then, months from now, at the last moment, some gatekeeper at Scholastic will raise a bugaboo issue (we do debunk a sort of religion) that throws the whole project into untethered confusion. We’ll cobble together a compromise that takes out Jesus’ sweaty sex life (just kidding!) and passes the trigger test.

Then I can start spending the advance money. Update my antivirus. Maybe take the whole family out for fast food.
