Any updates on the Camp FUNdament story?
No.
I believe Right On Erin is on it, and any day now I expect to get a lightly edited manuscript for final review, punctuated with ‘Way to go!’ and ‘LOL!’ comments.
For ‘believe’ read: hope. For ‘expect to’ read: probably won’t.
Meanwhile, I have revisited the fable told by a bully. Have I talked about that one?
Brief recap: I am again attempting a hard-to-like narrator. I’ve had a few of those. Bob the nebbish germaphobe, Bunny the dim jailbird, Archie the dork whose superpower turns him briefly irresistible, and Cody the soft-core racist.
This one is Dimitri, a middle-school bully who tells the reader flat out, ‘I hate you. Yeah, you.’
I, Dimitri began as a novel and turned into a graphic. My agent thought the first draught was too preachy (a criticism I have never encountered!) and urged me to have more fun and be a little edgier.
Well, as they say, don’t threaten me with a good time.
The new draught is both more meta and more physical. It’s certainly goofier. Less learning, more burning. Less heavy-hitting, more spitting. (An odd amount, really. Can saliva be a theme?) Kevin Sylvester calls it punchier. When he’s drawn some more loogeys, I’ll send it agentward.
Erin may have Camp FUNdament ready by then. For ‘may’ read: won’t.
