I know you want to know what’s going on with the Belongingess story I’m writing with Melanie. I can hear your feverish cries. “Tell us!” you implore. “Tell us where you two are!”
Well.
We’re near the end. We’re in the big scene. I spent all week working on what turned out to be two chapters that take place during the climactic event, where Cody looks like he’s achieving some kind of heart’s desire, only to have it all fall apart! (Yes, Syd Field, I got the memo.) It was harrowing. There was laughter. There were tears. There were surprises.
I sent it to Melanie and took a deep breath. She sent back right away – “Cool. Get it back to you tomorrow.”
Tomorrow? Tomorrow?
Who am I working with – Stephanie King? Usain Bolt? (I’d use Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, fastest woman in the world, but she’s not as well known and, honestly, it’s a lot of letters. Great hair, mind you.) Wonder Woman (there we go)?
So any day now I’ll be drying my tears and girding my loins and putting my shoulder back to the wheel as our giant snowball rolls down the hill to flatten the cute village at the bottom. (4 metaphors in one sentence – don’t try this at home, folks!)
