Crazy Montage; With Semicolons

I’m done – again. Done for the moment. Done for now. Done until I get another idea, or maybe another VISA bill.

What I mean is that I have finished my rewrite of the graphic novel about the bully, and sent it off to my agent. I have a working title, which I managed to work into the revised script. (Lots of titles never get explained. There’s no clockwork orange in A Clockwork Orange or naked lunch in Naked Lunch; neither the thin man nor Virginia Woolf have speaking parts; and I think those are the first semicolons I’ve used in years!)

I say I but I mean we. Kevin’s illustrations are a ton of fun, and lots of readers will pick up the book because of them.

The rewrite involves more goofy scenes than the original draft. My agent didn’t like my ‘preachy tone’ (I was trying to sound wholesome – serve me right) and urged me to let go.

Which I did. Remember that fantasy sequence in the record store in Hi Fidelity? Like that. With easy segues, since one of my key characters is not bound by worldly laws. It’s fun and freeing to be able to ask yourself: ‘What crazy montage could happen here?’ (Not my first colon in years. I am fond – maybe too fond – of them. Also em dashes.)
